The struggle for the release of the Cuban Five continues

The VII International Symposium for the release of the Cuban Five and against Terrorism was announced in Holguin by Amaury Torno Gonzalez, delegate of the Cuban Friendship Institute in Holguin, and president of the Organizing Committee for the event.

To be held from November 16 to 20 under the slogan "Solidarity", the conference is a new opportunity for people who love justice to join the struggle for the release of Gerardo, Antonio, Ramon, Rene and Fernando, internationally known as the Cuban Five, unjustly imprisoned in the United States for over 12 years.

This time, the event will premier the video clip “Volveran” (They Shall Return), by Iraldo Leyva Castro, journalist of the RadioJuvenil station in the municipality of Calixto Garcia, and played by Jose Carlos Becerra Quevedo, violin player of the Concert Band of the territory, along with Prima choir.

The video clip, first one made in this territory, shows images of all the actions and campaigns being carried out worldwide, for the liberation of the Five, with the direction of Carlos Fernandez, cameraman of TeleCristal.

International Trade Fair in Holguin


The 12th International Trade Fair Expo Holguin 2011 will be held from March 21 to 25 at the exhibition center of this eastern province.

This year, the most important bussiness meeting of the eastern region, aims at the promotion and marketing of products available in the island.

So far, delegates from Russia, Spain, Venezuela, Belgium, Italy, Panama, Germany, Ecuador and United Kingdom have confirmed their attendance at the meeting, in addition more than seventy national companies are distributed in fifty stands covering 750 square meters indoor exhibition area.

Holguin has achieved an economic development with a broad social and industrial development that makes the province one of the major markets in Cuba.

Daniel Tarrago Infante, president of the Organizing Committee for the event noted that "Holguin has showed its capacity of industrial development and this has had an effective influence in the trade fair growing every year in quality and participation, with a rising number of agreements and business. The province gradually becomes the main commercial fair in eastern Cuba."

Sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce of the Republic of Cuba and organized by the Provincial Administration Council, the Expo Holguin will award Best Business Management, design and product quality and willdeliver the Grand Prize during the closing ceremony.

Me, the Cuban woman


March 8 in Cuba is a day for celebration to women, who have won an important role in society.
With the triumph of the Cuban Revolution on January 1st, 1959, the late Vilma Espin heroin started a fight even longer than the previous ones: the struggle for women's equality, and thanks to her efforts, the Cuban women could be at the seat of dignity, recognition and honor she holds today.

 In her olive green uniform or white coat, in his suit of teacher, intellectual, farmer or worker, she has actively participated in all the economic, political and cultural transformations carried out in the country.

 She has been present throughout the revolutionary process, from Marian Grajales to Celia Sanchez and Vilma Espin and has worked on all tasks of the revolution. At present, the Cuban woman has assumed with responsibility the tasks and challenges from the improvement of Cuban socialism, and updating the current economic model.

They constitute more than the 70 percent of health and education; the 51 percent of researches; the 56 percent of judges; and in the Parliament they reach the 43.32 percent.

This anniversary will be marked by round tables, workshops, movies showing and expositions. Meanwhile, female students, workers, leaders, retiree and house keepers will be honoured in schools, work places and neighbourhoods of the Caribbean island.
